Plastic Storage Containers

Plastic storage containers are absolutely indispensable in and around the house. Large bins and baskets can be used in the kitchen bathroom, bedroom, laundry room, and walk-in closets. You can also use them to store miscellaneous stuff in the garage, attic, or other storage areas. Sets of plastic boxes are stackable and so make for tidy storage, using less space.

The best part about plastic type storage containers is that you can get them in a variety of finishes. You can get plastic which looks like wicker or cane, wood, in solid colors or designs.

In The Kitchen

When you do your grocery shopping, you may be tempted to keep things in their original packaging, which is fine. But when you open the packages, you ought to remove and decant the contents as open packages are liable to insect infestation, pests, dust, dirt as also spoilage in less than ideal weather conditions. Use containers for storage in cabinets, on counters and in drawers for:

  • raw food and perishables
  • cooked food
  • leftovers
  • storage for dry goods
  • refrigerator storage
  • freezer storage
  • cupboard storage
  • condiments and spices
  • water
  • beverages
  • preserves

It is virtually impossible to envisage a kitchen without storage containers of one kind or another.

Transparent Rigid Containers

Plastic type storage containers that are transparent look attractive and the foods inside are visible. Some plastic containers can go from freezer to microwave or oven and are dishwasher safe. Usually these come with colored lids so you can buy coordinated sets. Many of them may come with designs on the lids, too. Often these are air-tight and some may be lockable as well. Transparent containers obviate the need to label the foods inside, though you may have to date them for freezer storage.

Large transparent bins and bags can be used to store any kind of items which need to be visible. Attractive baskets and boxes can be used to store

  • accessories
  • cosmetics
  • small pieces of jewelry
  • craftwork supplies
  • stationery
  • sewing supplies

You can organize all your items neatly for a clutter-free home.

Transparent Bags As Plastic Type Storage Containers

Zip lock bags are used for many food items, whether put in the refrigerator, the freezer or for storing small items. Zip lock bags, which are not food grade plastic, can be used to carry toiletries and medicines specially when traveling, as they will protect the liquids and your clothes in case there are any spills. Vacuum sealable bags also make good containers for clothes and linen, which have to be stored for long due to change of season.

Transparent bags have multipurpose uses – you can use them for grocery bags or to carry clothes for dry cleaning, where they are used for temporary storage.

Opaque plastic Type storage containers

Bigger size containers are often opaque as in large boxes and jars, bins and baskets. Another type of storage containers are trash bins that are made of heavy-duty opaque plastic. You may have separate bins for dry and wet or stuff that can go into the compost, things designated for the recycling center and another for waste to throw away.

Outside you can use large bins in the garden or by the poolside to store gardening supplies, pool equipment and supplies, as well as yard tools. Plastic is waterproof and does not degrade easily. It is durable and as you get bins in a large number of colors, you can select colors that go with your décor.

Plastic boxes can be used to store your computer peripherals, DVDs, CDs, cables, and chargers. Boxes with handles make “handy” toolboxes for easy access to all your tools in one place.

As you can see, plastic storage containers have many uses in all households and even in offices.
